The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
